An animatronic statue of the horror-film character Freddy Krueger has been swiped from its spot in front of an insurance office in downtown Chula Vista, police said Friday.
Freddy's head, with its horrendous burn scars that have frightened moviegoers for years, apparently fell off during the nighttime caper and the thieves left it behind, police said.
Witnesses said the thieves appeared to be teenagers driving a GMC Suburban. The value of the animatronic -- with or without its head -- is about $375.
The life-size prop was outside the Insurance 4 Less office on Third Avenue, police said. No ransom note has been received.
