Man arrested on suspicion of 2 sex assaults near UCLA

A man was arrested Friday on suspicion of sexually assaulting two females in Westwood after jumping from the second-floor window of an apartment building and evading police for almost an hour.

Police were alerted to a possible burglary at 4:37 a.m. in the 10980 block of Wellworth Avenue behind the UCLA campus.

Neighbors said they were awakened by the sounds of a woman screaming before police were called.

Officers arrived and discovered a man had escaped by leaping from the window of the building. He tumbled from the second floor and landed on an exhaust fan, injuring himself.

He ran down a back alley, and the area was blocked off as police canvassed the streets.

The man was found about 5:45 a.m. bleeding inside the gym of a building adjacent to where the assaults occurred. Police said the suspect injured his wrist in the fall and had cuts on him.

Blood also was found inside the apartment where the sexual assaults took place, possibly indicating a struggle between the two victims and the suspect, police said.
